Anxiety is hard enough in your mother tongue.
Doing it in a second language is a different task altogether: describing a panic attack, or a fear you cannot explain even to yourself, in words you had to look up. Most people give up somewhere in that gap. Not because the help isn't there, but because explaining themselves is more work than staying quiet.
You can do this in English with me. All of it: the first conversation, the work itself, the difficult sentences.
I know what it is like to start over in another country: I lived abroad for two years myself, in Florida and in Paris.
I work with international clients, both in my practice in Düsseldorf and online.
You are not starting from zero
If you moved here for work, a partner or a fresh start, you probably arrived competent. You had a job, friends, a city you knew how to move around in. Then you landed somewhere where the doctor, the landlord and the tax office all speak a language you are still building, and where the people who used to steady you are two flights away.
Anxiety in that situation is not a sign that something is wrong with you. It is what a nervous system does when everything familiar has been removed at once.
Anxiety treatment in English, far beyond the move
A new country is only one of many reasons people come to me. My work is anxiety treatment in all its forms, and all of it is available in English:
- Panic attacks and generalised anxiety
- Social anxiety, presentation anxiety and exam anxiety
- Fear of flying, driving anxiety and claustrophobia
- Health anxiety and fear of fainting
- Fear of failure and anxiety at work
- Burnout and anxiety
- Trauma and difficult experiences that do not settle
Depending on what fits you, I work with hypnosis, WingWave and EMDR-oriented methods, IFS and NLP.
Frequently asked questions about anxiety therapy in English
Can the whole therapy be in English?
Yes. The first conversation, every session and all written contact can be in English. If a word comes more easily in German, we can switch at any time.
What is your qualification?
I am a Heilpraktikerin für Psychotherapie, licensed under the German Heilpraktiker Act to practise psychotherapy. I have worked with anxiety for over 25 years, in more than 10,000 hours. This is a different licence from that of a psychological psychotherapist who works with statutory health insurance.
Do I need a referral?
No. You do not need a referral from a doctor. You contact me directly and we arrange a first conversation.
Who pays for the sessions?
Statutory health insurance in Germany does not cover treatment by a Heilpraktikerin. Some private and supplementary insurance policies do. Please check your policy with your insurer.
Is it normal to develop anxiety after moving to another country?
Yes, it is common. When everything familiar is removed at once, the nervous system reacts with alarm. That is not a sign that something is wrong with you. It is a learned pattern, and learned patterns can be resolved.
Can we work online, and what happens if I move away?
Sessions take place in my practice in Düsseldorf or online. If you move on, to another country or back home, we can continue online, in the same language.
How does it start?
You get in touch by phone, WhatsApp or email, and we arrange a first conversation, either in my practice in Düsseldorf or online, whichever suits you better. In that conversation you can tell me in English what is going on and what you would like to change, at whatever pace feels right for you, and I explain how I would work with your particular anxiety and what the next steps could look like.
